Mission Projects

Girls in Action, Royal Ambassadors, and Children in Action love to do hands-on missions projects!

Each month, GA LeaderRA Leader, and Children in Action Leader suggest a missions project for groups to do. Many groups also plan their own projects, based on the needs of their communities.

These projects might include:

  • Working in a ministry center
  • Collecting items for a food pantry
  • Visiting a nursing home
  • Hosting a fun day for unchurched children

Also, we frequently give new project ideas in our weekly blogs or on social media. Whatever needs you decide to meet, ensure children are experiencing the Great Commission by showing them how to share God’s love with others as they meet needs in your community.

Pen Pals

Most children enjoy writing other Girls in Action, Royal Ambassadors, and Children in Action groups. WMU does not maintain a pen pal list, but leaders can exchange information on our Facebook pages as a way to find groups interested in earning the Pen Pals badge/patch.

Some children's groups also enjoy writing missionaries and missionary kids (MKs). Use these tips to ensure a fun experience for both your children and the MKs:

  • Write only to MKs whose postal or email addresses are listed in Children in Action LeaderGA LeaderRA LeaderGA World, or RA World. Because of security, we cannot provide contact information for some MKs.
  • Include a self-addressed, stamped envelope or postcard in each letter you send to an MK in the United States. Also, consider including your email address.
  • Do not ask or expect MKs to reply to your message. Many receive hundreds of letters and emails from children's groups!
  • Preview your children's messages before sending them to MKs. MKs' parents will also receive and review each message.
  • Do not email attachments or forward emails to MKs.
  • Spend time praying for each MK to whom you write.

Christmas in August

Every year in August, children's missions groups collect gifts for a select group of North American missionaries. These items help missionaries replenish ministry supplies, purchase items for ministry centers, and minister to people who need to hear about Jesus.

Does Christmas in August really make a difference? Yes, it does!
