Participate in Children’s Ministry Day

Each February, thousands of children across North America participate in ministry projects on the same day:Children’s Ministry Day.

Since 2008, more than 170,000 people have taken part in CMD! WMU invites all children in grades 1–6 to participate February 13.

This year’s theme is All for You and the theme verse is Mark 8:34 (NIrV): “Jesus called the crowd to him along with his disciples. He said, ‘Whoever wants to be my disciple must say no to themselves. They must pick up their cross and follow me.’”

Lead your church to plan a hands-on CMD project that involves children in direct ministry to unchurched community members. Use these ideas to get started:

  • Share Scripture with community servants as you serve a home cooked breakfast.
  • Help serve a meal at a local shelter.
  • Throw a birthday party for children at a Baptist children’s home.
  • Assemble and deliver craft packs to a children’s hospital.
  • Serve a meal to a senior adult.

Use the ideas in the All for You Promotion Pack to create a bulletin board to promote CMD. Leave space on the bulletin board to post the week’s CMD prayer request. Make sure you post the request before people begin to arrive at church each week. Ask the person leading prayers at each worship service, Sunday School class, and churchwide event to pray for CMD using the week’s prayer request.

Prior to a worship service a few weeks before CMD, distribute copies of the bulletin insert from the promotion pack. This insert can serve as a prayer guide for church members to pray for CMD each day of the week.

Get families of the children praying, too! Send home a personal letter addressed to “Parents of [insert child’s name]” with a copy of the bulletin insert from the promotion pack. In the letter, tell parents about CMD and your desire for their child to participate. Also invite parents and children to pray for CMD at home. Follow up a couple of weeks later with a personal invitation to the child/children of each household to participate.

CMD is a great way to get the children in your church motivated and engaged in mission action in their community. What better way to get them motivated than to help them to see that they are joining thousands of other children across North America to minister to people with the love of Jesus?

Imagine the impact the church of Jesus Christ could have in North America if children everywhere led their entire church family to minister in their community!
