2017 Mission Friends Christmas in August

Christmas in August

1. Select one missionary from the list.

2. Send home a note encouraging families to participate with their child. A note you can fill in is at wmu.com/preschool on the Free Downloads page. List items the missionary requests. Remind parents that all gifts should be new.

3. Leave the gifts unwrapped.

4. Send only the items requested because storage can be a problem.

5. If Mission Friends® make cards for the missionary, remind them that they may not hear back from that person because it takes the missionaries lots of time and costs money to write and mail notes to all the churches who send gifts.

The missionaries expressed gratitude for your support when they sent their requests. They are excited about receiving these items.

Church Renewal Journey is a life-changing weekend experience for lay people to help them “Return to the joy of their salvation.” Some churches are healthy and growing and desiring to grow closer to God. Other churches have stopped growing, and some are even thinking about closing their doors. Small groups, worship with testimonies and music, and prayer are key to the Church Renewal Journey. Each weekend has adult groups, youth groups, and children’s groups led by lay people. The requested materials will be used in our ministry for the planning and implementation of a Renewal Weekend.

We work with an elementary school and mentor children in the lower grades, particularly in reading. These supplies will help teachers through the year. The gift cards will help us purchase sports equipment to minister at two mobile home parks. There, we minister to many older children who love basketball and soccer. We can also use school supplies at the mobile home parks.

I am the Collegiate Director for New England Baptists. I lead a team of missionaries who minister on college campuses across the region. We desire to reach students with the good news of Jesus Christ, make disciples among students, and plant churches on and near university campuses. I also work with Southern Baptist churches in New England to reach students and connect them with the churches. Our goal is to see this generation of New England college students passionate for Christ and His church. Please pray for each person who will receive an item you choose to give.

As catalyst for Church and Community Ministries, I assist churches in reaching out to their communities with the good news of salvation through Jesus Christ. One of our ministries is the Florida Baptist Mobile Dental Unit. This unit is used by churches and associations to provide free dental care for children and adults who can’t afford dental care. The first six items will help the dental unit provide this care.

We also reach out to the 100 million tourists who visit the state each year. Creative ministries like Kid’s Clubs at hotel pools and Living Nativities in major tourist thoroughfares reach visiting children and tourists. The other items will assist in these ministries.

Many of the 10,000 people in our community are young families. Southwinds is one of two gospel-preaching churches in this community. Less than 5% of our community attends church regularly, and most will leave our community to attend church. One of our most effective outreaches is a summer T-ball camp for children between the ages of three and six. This introduces us to families in our community for the first time. Every child at camp receives a Bible. We ensure that children encounter Jesus in a fun and exciting way both at camp and at church. At church, we have three classes for babies through 8-year-olds. Thank you for partnering with us in ministering to the families in our community!
