By All Means

By All Means

Throughout Jesus’ ministry on earth, He took people as they were and showed them through His words and deeds the new life they could have as believers. As we seek to follow Jesus’ example, take a look at the way He met people where they are. He did not say to Zacchaeus, “You need to straighten out your life and give back all the money you cheated from people, and then I will come into your home.” No, Jesus looked up in the tree along the streets of Jericho and said, “Zacchaeus, come down immediately. I must stay at your house today” (Luke 19:5 NIV1). By the end of their visit, Zacchaeus’s heart and life were changed.

Spend a few minutes this month looking at the examples Jesus gave us. Look up these other verses in the Gospel of Luke. Note how Jesus met each person, and how their lives were changed.

  • Ÿ He met a fisherman named Simon at the water’s edge. (Luke 5:1–11)
  • Ÿ He met a widow at a town gate, on the way to her son’s funeral. (Luke 7:11–16)
  • Ÿ He stayed in the home of Martha and Mary. (Luke 10:38–39)
  • Ÿ He met 10 lepers on the outskirts of town. (Luke 17:11–19)
  • Ÿ He met a blind man who was begging by side of the road. (Luke 18:35–43)

By following Christ’s example, may we also meet people where they are and lead them to know Jesus. In teaching preschoolers, this means meeting preschoolers where they are in their development in order to show them Jesus’ love. We take their abilities into mind as we plan, and seek to meet their needs as preschoolers. Leading them week by week to know more about God’s love for all people. Extending a caring hand to the new parents who are reluctant to leave their preschooler in someone else’s care. Listening to the parents of special needs preschoolers so we will know the best ways of serving their children. Giving thanks for the opportunity to be Christ’s hands and feet as we serve by teaching preschoolers.

Prayer: Father, Lead me to follow Jesus’ example of meeting people where they are and leading them to know of Your love. I pray that You would guide me as I teach preschoolers that I would love them in a way that meets their needs for trust and care. Give me Your guidance as I in turn guide them to know of You. Amen.
