Follow Him

Follow Him

Do you remember playing the game “follow the leader”? Perhaps you still play the game with your  Mission Friends. To play the game, you have to imitate every move that the leader makes. This means that in order to stay in the game, you have to keep your eyes on the leader and observe her actions very carefully.

Then he called the crowd to him along with his disciples and said, “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me” (Mark 8:34, NIV1).

Jesus said that in order to be his disciples, we are to follow Him. To follow Him, we must keep our eyes on Him and carefully observe His actions and His attitudes and His words. While we cannot physically see Jesus with our eyes, the Bible gives us a beautiful record of His life and His instructions to us.

Is your life filled with distractions that pull you away from a focus on Him? Today, more than ever, it seems that our senses are bombarded with constant media interaction, and our emotions are lulled to sleep by the entertainment industry. May I gently challenge you today to unplug and to get still before Him? To quietly focus on His word and to pray, asking Him to show you how you can follow Him more fully?

As you study and pray, pray with the expectation that God will answer. Pray with the commitment that when He answers, you will follow.

Pray: Dear Father, Thank You for revealing Yourself to us through Your word. Thank You for loving us enough to send Your Son for our salvation. I pray that He will abide in me and I in Him. Please grant me the faith and the grace that I need to follow Him, totally surrendered and totally submitted. Amen.
