By All Means

Channapatana Nativity Set

“This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him” (1 John 4:9).

As Christmas draws near, we are reminded of the greatness of God’s love for us. The above verse is not typically known as a Christmas verse. It does not refer to a Bethlehem stable, shepherds on a hillside, or wise men who saw the star. The verse does not speak of an innkeeper, swaddling cloths, or a manger. The verse does encompass the very meaning of Christmas in that God loved us so much that he sent his Son. Christmas is a time for us to celebrate the coming of Christ into the world and God’s love for each of us. We rejoice at this time of year as we are reminded of His love and the eternal life that we have through Christ.

During this month of December, continue to think about God’s love for you. Let his love be your motivation for showing His love to others. Demonstrating His love to others may be as simple as speaking kindly to the sales clerk behind the counter. There may also be times for you to create opportunities to share His love. It could be that you invite an international family to join your family in trimming the Christmas tree. You might make baked goodies to share with neighbors who are not believers. Or you could take a meal to the new parents who visited your church. Keep your eyes and heart open to ways that you can show His love to others. Let the Christmas season be a time of sharing with others what Christmas means to you.

As you teach Mission Friends®, let God’s love surround all that you do as you demonstrate His love to preschoolers. Use the Bible thought with preschoolers: God loved us and sent his Son (see 1 John 4:10). Talk about the love that God showed us by sending Jesus. Help preschoolers to know God’s love through your loving words and ways as you teach them.

Pray: Dear God, Thank You for loving me and sending Your Son so that I have eternal life through Christ. Lead me to show Your love to others during this time of year as I celebrate Christmas. Help me to demonstrate Your love as I teach preschoolers to know of Jesus, Your Son. Amen.
