Answer the following questions:
Did the last question cause you to hesitate? Did all the questions other than the last one have what seemed like obvious answers, but then the last one made you stop and think? How did you respond to it, or did you skip that question in your mind and move on to the non-question part of the blog?
Where is your missions field? Recently I heard Jill Briscoe speak at an event. Part of her focus was on recognizing our personal missions fields. And this is how she described it: Your missions field is right where you are, “between your own two feet.”
Think about how you answered the questions above. We are all busy and we spend lots of time talking about our crazy schedules and all we have to accomplish in any given week.
We spend time at work, at home, at sporting events, at school activities, and on and on. This is our missions field each and every day. Wherever we find ourselves—right between our own two feet. Some days this may take us to ten different locations. Other days we may spend mostly at home with our family.
Wherever you are, on any given day, is your missions field. Another quote from Jill Briscoe that supports this idea of our missions field being right between our two feet: “Go where you’re sent, stay where you’re put, and give what you’ve got until you’re done.”
Have you embraced your missions field? Are you observing the needs of those you encounter every day? Are you praying for others? Looking for ways to help and support and encourage those you meet in the name of Christ?
If you had to give yourself a rating on how well you are embracing the challenge of your missions field, how would you say you’re doing? Do you see how the students you lead in missions organizations and discipleship are part of your missions field?
Spend time in prayer for your missions field. Pray that God will help you see the needs in your missions field each day, and that you won’t just see the needs but feel compelled to help meet those needs, as well.
Until you are sent somewhere else, your missions field is right before your eyes. Look at it! Pay attention to it and the people within it. Don’t walk blindly through your life as you move from one activity to the next. See the people. Help meet the needs. Pray for those you encounter. And give it everything you’ve got until you’re done.
