Meet the 2010 National Acteens Panelists
by Courtney Simpson
(Birmingham, Ala.) - Feb. 2, 2010 - One of WMU’s core values is to “accept responsibility for developing and equipping missional leaders.” Acteens® is one of the ways in which WMU is actively engaging teenage girls in grades 7–12 to become missional leaders by teaching them about missions and how to live a missional lifestyle.
A group of outstanding Acteens are selected each year to serve on the National Acteens Panel. These young ladies are known for their strong devotion to Christ, a commitment to make His Name known among all nations through missions, and for leadership and service in their school, church, and community. WMU is pleased to announce the selection of the following Acteens to the 2010 National Acteens Panel:
Sarah Angell of Cross Roads Baptist Church, Minot, N.D.; Brandie Hagerman of Living Faith Baptist Church, Hartford, Ky.; Savannah Hines of South Fork Baptist Church, Sonora, Ky.; Aman Majok of First Baptist Church, Amarillo, Texas; Morgan Shepherd of First Baptist Church, Humble, Texas; and Amy Smith of First Baptist Church, Prattville, Ala.
Most of the panelists have been involved in Acteens for many years and are now leading different ministry and missions opportunities in their communities and even around the world. They are active in continuing missions education by teaching others about Christ and continuing to share about missions efforts to those around them.
“I continue to be amazed at the incredible missions involvement we see in National Acteens Panelists,” said Suzanne Reece, national WMU ministry consultant for students. “Each of these girls has a deep commitment to God and she lives her commitment out by being the hands and feet of Christ everywhere she goes. These panelists are not the kind of students who act like Jesus at church and live like the world everywhere else; it is clear that their lives are permeated with Christ. They represent the best of the best in Acteens, and have grasped what it means to live a missions lifestyle.”
The 2010 National Acteens Panelists will serve from Feb. 1 to Dec. 31, and each will receive $1,000 from the Jessica Powell Loftis Scholarship for Acteens from the WMU Foundation.
These young women will be presented at the annual WMU Missions Celebration and Annual Meeting in Orlando, Fla., June 13-14. At this meeting, they will meet missionaries from around the globe and interact with national leaders involved in missions.
Throughout the year, they will have the opportunity to write articles for The Mag, the missions magazine for Acteens, and for the Acteens Web site, www.acteens.com; and speak to church, associational, and/or state Acteen and WMU groups. They will also work as a focus group to help shape the future direction of Acteens.
Although only a select few can be chosen as panelists, WMU also recognizes additional Acteens as National Top Teens for their strong involvement in missions. The following have been selected for 2010:
Bethany Bargo of Locust Grove Missionary Baptist Church, Barbourville, Ky.; Grace Blackmon of Grace Baptist Church, Sumter, S.C.; Cassandra Bollinger of First Baptist Church, Burfordville, Mo.; Fawn Freeze of Immanuel Baptist Church, Little Rock, Ar.; Kelsey Fritscher of First Baptist Church of Woodway, McGregor, Texas; Lynzie Gray of Bethel Baptist Church, Harrodsburg, Ky.; Hannah Pirkle of Central Baptist Church, Flowery Branch, Ga.; Nicole Quintero of West Campus Baptist Church, San Antonio, Texas; Kayla Tomlin of Living Faith Baptist Church, Whitesville, Ky.; and Rebecca Wells of White Springs Baptist Church, Attalla, Ala.
Applications for the 2011 National Acteens Panel are due to national WMU by Dec. 1, 2010. Applications will be available on the Acteens Web site at www.acteens.com and in the fall issue of Acteens Leader.
