Through an initiative called Project HELP^SM, WMU^® identifies a social and moral issue and ties in national projects that help lead the church to address it. Over the past 16 years, since the launch of Project HELP in 1994–1995, WMU has focused on a variety of universal problems ranging from hunger and poverty to HIV/AIDS and racial injustice. With each issue, we seek to raise the level of awareness and provide practical approaches anyone can implement to open the door for meeting needs and sharing the gospel.

During the years 2010–2012, we will explore a condition of the human spirit that has been around for ages—the misuse of our relationships with other people.

Our definition of human exploitation is the unethical, selfish use of human beings for the satisfaction of personal desires and/or profitable advantage.

Six basic areas:
• Bullying, Cyberbullying, Queen Bee Bullying
• Human Trafficking--Labor
• Human Trafficking--Sex
• Media's Exploitation of Families and Children
• Exploitation of Natural Resources for Personal Gain
• Pornography

In the first year of this emphasis we will focus on education, awareness, preparation, prayer, and some degree of action—a laying of groundwork for churches and church members to respond.

The second year will be about continued prayer then engaging in strong actions based on knowledge, awareness, and the leadership of the Lord.
