Christine Burton Gregory

Christine Burton Gregory served as president of WMU from 1975 to 1981. In her acceptance speech, in 1975, she announced herself as "a plain woman, loving missions with all my heart." Her traditional style, personal touch, and practicality graced her term.

She served as president and later executive secretary of Virginia WMU. As chairman of the nominating committee, she worked closely with Marie Mathis selecting Carolyn Weatherford to be national WMU's executive secretary following Alma Hunt's retirement. Within two days after her retirement as president of WMU, the SBC elected her first vice-president, the first woman to hold that particular office, the third woman ever to hold Convention office.
