Leadership Connections

Ethlene Boone Cox

Ethlene Boone Cox served as president of WMU from 1925 to 1933 and served as treasurer of WMU from 1934 to 1952. Marie Mathis analyzed her this way: "Four cornerstones symbolized her ife: sublime faith, believing prayer, insatiable study, and consecrated service."

Upon the end of her tenure as president she accepted the paid position of treasurer. Although she was uncertain at the outset about being treasurer, she soon had things well under control. She succeeded in keeping WMU legally and financially strong. Her main contribution to WMU from 1934 to 1952 was to facilitate WMU's increasingly complex decision-making processes.
